Radial hand controls give you brake and accelerator in one hand, very light to operate
If you cannot rely on your feet for the pedals, a radial hand control lets you steer with one hand and control brake and accelerator with the other. Because the lever travels further than a push-pull control, both functions feel noticeably lighter — and we fit and set yours up from our fully equipped Hemel Hempstead workshop.

How it works
One lever, both pedals
Your radial hand control mounts underneath the steering wheel, closer to the rim than a push-pull lever.
Push the lever down, towards the floor, and you accelerate. From any position, push the lever away from you and the brakes come on. There is nothing else to learn and no sequence to remember.
Because there is more room for the lever to move, both the brake and the accelerator are lighter than on a push-pull control.
Why drivers prefer it
The most relaxing hand control we fit
The weight of your hand and arm alone is enough to hold the accelerator in any position, so you are not holding constant pressure on long journeys. Many drivers tell us this makes radial controls the most relaxing hand control of all.
Indicators and other switches can be added straight onto the control lever, so you keep your other hand on the wheel.
Lighter to use
The lever travels further than a push-pull control, so less effort is needed for both braking and acceleration.
Simple to learn
Push down to accelerate, push away to brake. One hand covers both pedals while you steer with the other.
Switches to hand
Indicators, horn, lights and wipers can be added to the lever so you never take a hand off the wheel.

Fitting, funding and pricing
Every radial hand control is fitted, set up and road tested by our own technicians in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, then serviced by the same team afterwards.
Pricing depends on your vehicle and the switches you want on the lever, so please ask for a quote. Radial hand controls can be supplied privately or through the Motability Scheme, and may also be covered by Access to Work or a charitable grant.
Common questions
How is a radial control different from a push-pull?
Both put brake and accelerator in one hand. The radial lever sits closer to the wheel rim and travels further, which makes it lighter and less tiring to operate.
Do I still keep the standard pedals?
Yes. The original pedals remain in place, so another driver can use the car normally. Pedal guards can be added if you would like the pedals kept out of the way.
Which hand is it fitted for?
Either. We set the lever up on the side that suits your strength and reach, and steer with a wheel spinner or ball on the other side if that helps.
Is it available on Motability?
Yes. We are an approved adaptations installer, so the work can be arranged through your Motability lease.
