Abi Loader: automatic boot-to-car wheelchair loading

Simplify your life with the Abi Loader automatic wheelchair loading system, designed to give you complete independence and the freedom to travel on your own. At the flick of a switch, the Abi Loader opens the rear hatch of your car and delivers your wheelchair directly to your door. Once you unlatch your wheelchair, a second press folds the Abi Loader back into the car while you transfer across, even closing the rear hatch behind itself.

Discreet, efficient and out of sight

The Abi Loader is discreet and efficient. The robotic arm is not on show, and it has minimal impact on fuel consumption. It also does not need a large space to operate, which makes it well suited to town and city driving — if you can open your car door, you can use the Abi Loader.

We fit, calibrate and service every Abi Loader from our fully equipped Hemel Hempstead workshop, and SDL are the only official licensed Abi Loader importers into the UK.

Your wheelchair comes to the driver's door

The arm lifts your folded wheelchair out of the boot and swings it along the side of the car to the open driver's door, so you can transfer straight across without help. A single switch reverses the whole sequence, stowing the chair and closing the hatch.

Why drivers choose the Abi Loader

Fits a wide range of vehicles

Suitable for cars with a high rear door, vertical or inclined — estate cars, station wagons, minivans, MPVs, SUVs, off-roaders and 4WDs. When you change car, it is transferable.

Fast and fully automatic

A rapid 25 second automatic retrieve or store. You flick a switch to operate it — no lifting, no folding into the boot by hand.

Reduces effort

Totally automatic, so you just sit and wait while your wheelchair is delivered or stowed.

Keeps your car's looks and economy

The car retains its original appearance and fuel economy, with the added benefit that your chair stays secure, clean and dry.

Works in limited spaces

No roof height worries in car parks or garages. The Abi Loader operates in any parking space — if you can open your car door, you can load your wheelchair.

Fitted and serviced by SDL

SDL are the only official licensed Abi Loader importers into the UK, with full workshop facilities and years of experience installing them.

Common questions

How heavy a wheelchair can it lift?

25kg is the normal load, and up to 32kg as a heavy load. Bring or tell us your chair's weight and we will confirm it.

Will it fit my car?

It suits cars with a high rear door, vertical or inclined — estates, MPVs, SUVs and 4WDs. Your boot needs at least 710mm of vertical height, and we measure the width and depth on your vehicle.

Can it move to my next car?

Yes. The Abi Loader is transferable between vehicles, subject to the new car meeting the same space requirements.

How long does loading take?

Around 25 to 30 seconds each way, fully automatically, from a single switch.
