The Carony system consists of three parts: the seat, the wheel base and the swivel base. Together with the wheelbase the seat will become a standard transport wheelchair. Together with the swivel base the seat becomes a tested and approved car seat. This means anyone, wheelchair user or not, can sit up front in the Carony seat, use the car’s original seat belt and enjoy a safe and comfortable ride.
The Carony makes transferring into a vehicle quick, simple and safe with its transfer system. You don’t have to get out of your wheelchair at all, the Carony slides both you and your wheelchair seat into the vehicle, all in one go. The larger the car door, the more room there is for an easy transfer of course, but the Carony has been fitted to many 3-door and 5-door vehicles with great success.
The Wheel base and Seat
Together with the seat, the wheelcase forms the Carony wheelchair. This is where you find details such as foot rests, the crank for height adjustment and the parking brake. To make it easy to move around and safe to park, it has premium 16″ wheels with disc brakes. The height adjustment crank helps to match the height of the car when docking, but it can also be useful for various situations in and around the home.
The Carony’s aim is to make it easy to transfer from wheelchair to car seat for anyone who finds it difficult to get out of their wheelchair. And because you will likely spend far more time seated in the Carony than you are doing transfers, usability and comfort were a key focus when BraunAbility was designing the Carony.
With a range of seating accessories and options available to further increase your comfort, you can make the Carony a very comfortable car seat and wheelchair. For anyone, regardless of individual needs.
A version that works with electric wheelchairs is also available, so there’s an option to suit you, no matter what your needs.
The Swivel Base
Combine the Carony with a Turnout (simple mechanical swivel base) or Turny manual(advanced mechanical swivel base) and the seat will rotate into the front of the car – all you have to do is clip in the car seat belt and shut the door, knowing that the integrated safety catches are there to prevent any accidental detachment. Your carer or assistant simply picks up the lightweight wheel-base and pops it into the boot, you’re ready to go – no fuss at all.

The Carony now features integrated push handles with brakes. When used as a car seat the handles fold into the back of the seat.
