This process involves removing the steering system and making detailed modifications to the control device to reduce the steering efforts to match your specification requirements (sometimes an assessment of your strength may be necessary). The steering system is then refitted to the vehicle and road tested to determine the correct values have been achieved; there are two main types of steering systems that can be lightened. Hydraulic types (these can be lightened down to 1NM) 1. Hydraulic power steering rack and pump 2. Hydraulic power steering rack and electric pump. Electronic types (please contact us for advice) 1. Electric motor fitted to steering rack 2. Electric motor fitted to steering column It is important to contact SDL before purchasing your new vehicle to determine if we can modify the steering to suit your special needs. |
